bicycle & pedestrian advisory committee

Established in 2018, the Bicycle & Pedestrian Advisory Committee is a crucial component to the framework of FAST Planning. This group brings advocacy for, and attention to, active transportation modes in the Fairbanks Metropolitan Planning Area.

The BPAC’s roles and responsibilities include:
– their continued involvement with applicable FAST Planning plans and policies as they are produced or updated;
– assisting with public outreach and education regarding bicycle and pedestrian-related topics;
– advising the FAST Planning Technical Committee on project-specific opportunities, on current deficiencies and future network needs, and on innovation, safety and best practices of bicycle and pedestrian users; and
– establish and maintain communication with similar groups and interested users in the Fairbanks community.

These committee members were selected to serve on the BPAC on the basis that they have an interest in non-motorized transportation. Currently, there are two vacant seats on the BPAC, one of which being the seat for a North Pole representative. Nominations for these vacant positions do not require the candidate’s residence be within any particular boundary, but familiarity with the area’s infrastructure for bicycle and pedestrian use is ideal.
