The Lacey Street Corridor was nominated to FAST Planning’s Transportation Improvement Program as an illustrative project in 2019. Even then, the road was in poor condition, the sidewalks – even worse, and the traffic volumes minimal. With the nomination came the chance to reimagine Lacey Street as a north-south connector that served all users. What if it was a linear series of pocket parks? What if there were designated spaces for play, food trucks, or added shade to the Downtown? We established a Steering Committee and carried out a valuable learning process to get the answers to our questions.

Steering Committee Meetings
FAST Planning offered a space for community members to come together and envision a variety of future designs for the lowest volume north-south street in our Downtown Core. Given that, to this day (updated 2026), there is no other dedicated north-south connection in the core that is balanced for all users, this project aimed to showcase the potential for Lacey Street to shapeshift into something for everyone.
Above is the list of people who were invited to participate as a steering committee member for the Lacey Street Project discussions. Not every person on this list attended each meeting, but the public records show a valuable mix of representation from private business owners, active users of the corridor, and transportation professionals.
